Where To Find Beetles Back to county index  Back to species index

Caernarfonshire

The ground beetle Chlaenius tristis [RDB1] (Carabidae) is probably now confined in the British Isles to the Cors Geirch area.

At Great Orme's Head the pollen beetle Meligethes brevis [RDBK] may be found on the rock-rose Helianthemum nummularium during August.

But the real prize in Caernarfonshire has to be the beautiful Rainbow Leaf Beetle Chrysolina cerealis [RDB1] (Chrysomelidae), which is to be found on Wild Thyme Thymus drucei on the slopes of Snowdon between June and October. N.B. The Rainbow Leaf Beetle Chrysolina cerealis is protected under Schedule 5 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and may not be collected.

Bagous frit [RDB3] is found very locally in Sphagnum bogs from April to August.
